Outback

David finds that the best way to express his love for storytelling, and his passion for Australian history, is with a paintbrush and canvas, and with the earthy tones of the outback.

This series is where it all began for David more than 35 years ago on his kitchen table in Broken Hill, NSW; with a few brushes, some paper, and some paints laid out on an old board, David began his first works depicting life in the outback.

Growing up in a dusty old mining town, left an indelible mark on David’s life, and also upon the way he now expresses those observations of the rich colours, and the depth of the landscape he was living in; those powerful memories have become his greatest source of reference to life in the outback, and the inspiration behind the themes that bring him back to his roots.

Many of the images from the outback series are often humorous, but at the same time, they are also very reflective of his heritage and fascination with illustrating the Australian spirit. Although David now lives surrounded by beautiful beaches and lush hinterland, his location has not dimmed his connection to his roots. David’s outback series will always be an expression of his humble beginning and his love for life in the outback.
