David Hart Collaborates With Telstra For London Olympics

London Olympics and David Hart:

In 2012 David was commissioned by Telstra to paint a mural for the London Olympic Games to help launch the Telstra Hero Message campaign. Together, Telstra and David created a concept for a sports hero collaboration mural. It was started at Customs House in Sydney with the help of Olympic champions Cathy Freeman and Geoff Huegill, who helped David to lay down the first layers of paint using sports equipment.

The artwork was then transported to David’s studio in QLD, where over a 4 day period, the final stages of completion were recorded using time lapse the broadcast throughout the olympic village in London, along with all the hero messages texted into Telstra.

At 6 meters long and nearly 3 meters high, the completed artwork was varnished and stretched onto a custom made alloy stretcher bar before being transported back to sydney for hanging. Unfortunately the scale of the artwork meant it was far too large to fit into the Australian Olympic Committee headquarters. At a cost of over $10,000 in materials to create, the artwork was kindly donated back to the artist by Telstra; it was transported back to QLD and now hangs in David’s private Brisbane studio.
