This stunning series of work was inspired by memories of times spent camping by the Darling river, and its many tributary’s and lakes that can be found around the small town of Menindee, New South Wales. Located about one and half hours drive south east of the dusty outback mining town of Broken Hill, the Menindee lake system provided David with both a camping paradise, and some of the most colourful and serine backdrops that nature could provide.
Much of the work David creates around this theme, features the rich colours and bird life that this stunning natural paradise is renowned for. In this part of Australia it’s not the desert that creates the horizon, it’s the flooded tree lines, which at certain times of the day create unforgettable mirror reflections across the lakes and billabongs. It’s said that the lakes around Menindee contain more water than Sydney Harbour, some of them are so big that they give the appearance of huge inland seas that seem to stretch on forever. However, the only thing that ever breaks the shore from the horizon on these vast stretches of water, are the twisted and half submerged trees that rise up out of the water, to make homes for the brilliance of the white Water Birds.
